Dzukou Valley

Dzukou_Valley Tour Plan

Located at an altitude of about 8000 feet above the sea level, the Juko Valley is a wonderful valley in North East India, located on the border of Nagaland and Manipur. Such a surprising and unique valley but if you look for it in India, you will not find another one, due to which thousands of tourists and trekkers flock to this wonderful valley of Nagaland every year, it has increased several times over the years. In this post I will share all the information about Zuko Valley Trek, this post is for those who don't know about this place, or those who know, who are thinking of coming here. After seeing the pictures, many people will definitely want to come here, if you visit here once, I promise you will not be depressed, you must read the entire post and you will get answers to all your questions.

Juko Valley is located about 38 km away from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. 60% of this valley lies within Nagaland while the remaining 40% lies within Manipur. A lot has happened in Duraj over the possession of this valley. The region is inhabited by the Angami tribes of Nagaland.

The word "Dzukou" in Angami language means - "lifeless and dull area" In ancient times, the initiative of the Angami tribes to settle and farm in this Dzukou valley was not possible due to the environment, climate and soil, since then this valley was named Dzukou. goes

There are some special features of this valley - first of all, you will see a special grass, or small bamboo trees all over this valley, which gives the hills of this valley a distinct identity, and increases the beauty of the valley to a greater extent, as I said earlier, such hills you can find in our country. If you look for it, you may not find it anywhere. Walking through these rows of bamboo trees will be a different experience, another special feature for which Zuko Valley is famous is the Zuko Lily, a special species of flower that can only be seen in this valley. will get Two small mountain rivers named "Juko" and "Jafku" pass through the valley. Locals call this river Jhiri.

#Juko_Trek :- Juko is a 14 km long trek of rough medium quality. Out of which 7-8 km by car and the remaining 7-8 km on foot. Out of which about 1 km of the road has to be climbed very steeply.

Juko Valley Trek has two routes through Nagaland - one via Jakhama village, second via Viswema village, but currently a route has also started via Senapati in Manipur I heard. In between, the route via Viswema is a bit longer, but the route via Jakhama is a bit shorter but steep enough. Most of the tourists start the trek via Viswema and return via Jakhama.

Before entering Zuko Valley, you have to make a pass at the entrance, for which they charge 100 taka per person. There is only one option for overnight stay in Zuko Valley. Where you can have different ways. In which there are 2, 3 personal rooms, two dormitories where most of the trekkers stay. 3. You can stay in tents if you want, but I don't think you should stay here on very windy or cold days and stormy days. In addition to staying, you will get all kinds of accommodation and food here, but everything is a bit expensive, but it is a big deal that you are getting these at such a high price. I am giving the rates below….

 1. For stay - 100 rupees

 2. Matt - 50

 3. Blanket - 200

 4. Sleeping bag - 300

 5. Dal Rice - 250

 6. Maggie - 80

 7. Tea - 30

Best time to visit Dzukou Valley

#Juko_valley_how_to_reach :- Juko Valley is located at Nagaland - Manipur border in Southern Nagaland. If you want, you can come here in two ways, one flight, two trains. No matter how you come, the first thing you need to do is reach the city of Dimapur in Nagaland, which is also called the gateway to Nagaland, and is the largest city in Nagaland. Kohima is called the capital of Nagaland, but Dimapur can be called the capital of Nagaland, which is located in the plains. Dimapur has the state's only airport, railway station, and ISBT bus stand.

If you don't want to come by flight - you can get many trains to reach Dimapur. Dimapur is located between Gauhati - Dibrugarh main line, so many trains bound for Dibrugarh or Tinsukia stop at Dimapur, so there will be no inconvenience from this side, moreover, you can come to Dimapur by changing trains from Guwahati. You can also reach this Dimapur by bus from various small and big cities of Assam.

On reaching Dimapur, by road from Dimapur you have to go towards Juko Valley. There is a taxi stand right in front of the railway station from where you can get a share or reserve vehicle. For Juko Valley you have to reach Viswema, Kigoema, or Jakhama villages, you will find many homestays in these villages, if you want you can stay in Kohima, but in my opinion you should not stay here, the cost will be a bit more if you stay here. The fare from Dimapur to Kohima is Tk 230 per share, if you go to Bishwema then it will cost more, and the best thing to do is to make a reservation, on the way you can see Kohima War Cemetery and Church too.

Next step means next day you have to drive from Viswema village to Juko valley trek point about 7 km for which you need to reserve car separately, fare is 1500 rupees, you will get the car at Viswema village itself. After that, the rest of the way has to be trekked.

#Nagaland_Permit :- You must have Inner Line Parmit (ILP) to enter Nagaland. You don't need any permit till Dimapur, you can stay here if you want but from Dimapur you need permit to enter Nagaland which is called ILP.

You can do this ILP both online and offline before you need to show any hotel booking details in Nagaland. It is best to do it online, there are two steps to do online, you will understand when you open the website, you have to pay 50 taka per person. And if you want to do it offline, you have to go to Dimapur - DC office, but the office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

#Juco_Valley_Trek_Right_Time :- Juco Valley can be done all year round if you want. But there are some special times when the crowd of trekkers is high.

Nagaland's most popular Hornbill Festival is held during winters, especially from December 1-10. It is during this time that thousands of tourists come to Nagaland so most of the tourists do this Juko Valley trek during this time. One of the advantages of doing it in winter is that it avoids the stormy rain and wet trek route. And unfortunately, you won't get a good view of the main attraction of Zuko Valley at this time.

And the second time when the tourists come here in a large amount is during the monsoons especially - June July because - during this time a special flower called Zuko Lily blooms all over the valley and many trekkers come here due to its attraction.

At this time, you will have to face several inconveniences, first of all, the possibility of rain, rain and clouds are almost always present in this valley, so you have to bring all the preparations, besides, the road is quite slippery, especially the stairs, you will find leeches and leeches all over the road.

Although now tourists flock here throughout the year, since the lockdown, this place has become a very popular trek route because of its views and less volume of treks. So you can come here throughout the year if you want. April before monsoon and October after monsoon would be best according to me. But if you want to see Zuko Lily or green valley then you have to come in Monsoon, you may face a little inconvenience but after seeing the view everything is bound to bloom.

 #What_is_mandatory_for_Juco_Valley_Trek :- First of all

 1. A good raincoat.

 2. Good trekking shoes, waterproof shoes if it rains, otherwise two pairs of shoes, a Hawaiian chatty mast.

 3. Bag rain cover and umbrella.

 4. There is no electricity in Zuko, so it is mandatory to take a good 🔦 or LED light.

 5. If you take sheets, palm pillows, and sleeping bags, you will also get higher rent.

 6. Some dry food, some extra plastic and carrier bags and emergency medicine.

 7. Apart from this, take what you think are essential clothes for winter and monsoon

#How Days of Tour Plan Do :- If planning to do Jukko Valley trek only then roughly 5 days is enough. And those who want to go from North Bengal or Assam can complete this trek in 4 days including round trip.

#Tour_Plan :-

#First_Day - First of all you have to reach Dimapur by early morning train or flight. For that, book only those trains or flights that arrive in the morning. Reserve a car and come to Kohima first. Try to have breakfast from Dimapur before that, because you won't get a good breakfast if you go to hilly areas. It will take around 2.15 hours to reach Kohima, after reaching Kohima, first visit Kohima War Cemetery, where the graves of soldiers who died in World War II are buried. Then take a look at Kohima Church. Many people also visit Khanoma Village via Kohima, a very clean, tidy village, very beautiful. However, before going to the homestay, you must visit the Naga Heritage (Kisama) Village, right next to the road. And if you stay in a nearby homestay, you can visit this heritage village on foot in the afternoon. This heritage village is where Nagaland's heritage Hornbill Festival is held every year. Rest like that day at the homestay.

One more thing, if you have a plan not to see all this, then reserve a car from Dimapur and come straight to Viswema village, if you start the trek on the same day, you will save one day. And if you are not in such a hurry, you can go to my previous plan.

#Second_Day :- On the second day, have breakfast from the homestay early in the morning and pack your things with a lunch packet and leave for Viswema Village, you can rent a car between 500-1000, if you ask the homestay they will arrange it. And if you are staying in Visvema village then there is no need to rent a car. Now to go from here to Juko Trek starting point for 7 km, you have to hire one more magic cars, the rental will be 1500 taka, absolutely fixed. Before that, the permit must be paid 100 rupees. For this reason, if you come here in a group, you will save a lot of money on car rental. One, two, in fact, your expenses will increase due to these.

However, on reaching the starting point of the trek, you have to start the trek, first 400 meters you will find a completely dirt road, then about 1 km, the road is very steep and you have to climb up about 500-600 stairs. After that, the remaining 5 km road will be completely flat, it will not be too difficult to go through the hill village among the bamboo groves, it may be empty during monsoon, it will take you about 4 hours to trek this whole road (it took us). Along the way, you will see many amazing views, which you may not get anywhere else in India. After 4 hours of trekking you will reach Zuko Guest House, before that you must have lunch from the homestay on the way. There are all kinds of accommodation that you like, you can also rent a tent. Once you reach the top point of the place, the view you get will surpass everything else. The best view will be in the afternoon and early morning. There are many arrangements to enjoy sitting here, all these arrangements are made by the Angami tribes especially the Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) as there is no electricity here, so you have to eat and sleep by 6.30 in the evening, most of the tourists stay in the dormitories here.

#Third Day :- On the third day you have to get up very early in the morning. Because there are two small trek routes/trails one to Zuko Helipad and the other to Cross. The helipad is nearby and you can leave in the afternoon. Here you can actually see a Christian cross in the distance, it will take about 3 hours to get there, if you can't come to this place from Zuko, you will miss a lot of things, even if the weather is clear, you have to cross a small river and go there on the other side of the river. But Nagaland is beyond Manipur. Jahok saw the cross and came back after having a light breakfast (maggi) and started going down. If you descend by Jakhama then you can save a little more time. Take your booked car and come straight to Dimapur. The car should be mentioned the previous day or if it is mentioned in Homestate they will send it. But there is no network or electricity above. If you try to book trains or flights in the afternoon or night, then you can reach by noon and return home by the right train or flight.

#Cost :- Now let's see how much you can spend on this tour. I am trying to give a rough estimate even though it cannot be said that way.

1000 rupees per person per day for accommodation and food in Nagaland, it may be more or less. Apart from this, another biggest expense is car rental, i.e. from Dimapur to Bishwema Village - 500,600 rupees, which will increase if the team has less members. And if you want to visit more places, then it will increase. Apart from that, there are more expenses related to car rental, which I have mentioned in the previous point.

Then there is the cost of food, the cost of food in Nagaland is a little high, so if you stay in the home state, it can be reduced a little, but you can get good food. In total, if you come in a group of 5 people, then the total cost will not be more than 8-10 thousand rupees. You have to see how much the trains and flights cost yourself.

I am giving the numbers of two homestays, you can call and book there, it is very good, the car will be arranged immediately if you tell them.

 1. Dawn Homestay, Kigwama - 85758 26863 (Rs 800 & 1000 per day per head)

 2. Dzukou Homestay & Restaurant, Viswema - 8131087980.
